Mr. Lewis Principal

Mr. Lewis

...I was in my second year of college and I had taken most of my prerequisite classes and had changed my major twice. Quite honestly, I had come to college to follow two passions, football and track, but injuries and life were reminding me that I was paying a lot of tuition to have no direction. In a soul searching phone call with my mother, she cut through the fog and said, “Have you given thought to going into education?” As mothers can do, she “had connected all my dots,” and I found found my passion and career.

I grew up in Evergreen and attended Jefferson County School. Then I enrolled in Bethel College, in Minnesota to play football and run track, but transferred to the University of Northern Colorado to complete my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I taught fifth and sixth grade for five years at Prospect Valley in Wheat Ridge, CO. During this period, I completed a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

In August of 1991, I transferred to Bradford Elementary as a fifth grade teacher.

From 1991- 1996 I taught fifth and sixth grade, and helped open Bradford Intermediate School. During this time period, I completed my Type D Principal Certificate through the University of Phoenix. After two years as an Instructional Dean, I was named Principal at Bradford Primary in the fall of 1998. Through a shared decision making process I was named Principal of Bradford K8 in 2018.

This is my thirty fifth year in as and educator in Jefferson County Schools and my thirtieth year at Bradford! I can’t imagine a better school or community with which to have shared the majority of my educational career. On a personal side, I am married to the lovely Mrs. Amy Lewis and have four children, ranging in age from seventeen to thirty two. I now also have two granddaughters, who melt my heart. I reside in Conifer, in the same meadow where I grew up. I am a part of a family who raise bison, elk, and yaks. These animals make for great stories and fun on the third grade field trip during their Native America unit. For the last thirty years, I have coached one or more of my children in hockey, volleyball, football and lacrosse. In my spare time I love to hike with my dog, jet ski and ATV.
