Ms. Burkard, Assistant Principal South

Hello Bradford Families,

My name is Cassandra Burkard. I am very excited about taking a new role this year as an Assistant Principal at Bradford K-8. The experience that students and families have at Bradford is so important to me. I strive for each family to feel that their child is receiving the best education possible, both academically, emotionally, and socially.

As a third generation educator and second generation administrator, I come from a long line of educators and found that teaching and learning was also my calling. I grew up participating in competitive swimming and found a love for teaching swimming lessons and coaching swimming at an early age. This inspired me to obtain my Bachelors of Arts in Education, and I started my teaching career in Jeffco in 2006 at Coronado Elementary. I quickly found a passion for early childhood literature, working with twice exceptional students, and successfully implementing technology into my classroom. I later graduated with a Master’s in Educational Technology from Lesley University, and in my program, worked a lot with technology and how to integrate STEM philosophies into problem based learning. I then was recruited to open an elementary school at a STEM charter school in Douglas County in 2016 and obtained my second master’s degree in administration and school leadership shortly after. I have been continuing my work around problem based learning and STEM integration and also found a love of using restorative practices within school settings.

I look forward to leading, enhancing, and monitoring educational success at Bradford through a collaborative approach with students, teachers, and families. This includes academic and behavior success by fostering an engaging and positive atmosphere, providing programing and restorative practices that teach and embrace the Bradford Character Traits: respect, compassion, integrity, perseverance, collaboration, and critical thinking.

In my free time I enjoy riding and jumping horses, fishing, off-roading, and exploring the mountains! I have two fun, smart, and rambunctious kiddos, Elaina and Colton. Elaina is a 3rd grader and Colton is a 2nd grader. They inspire me everyday to be the best mother and educator I can be. We welcomed a new puppy into our family this summer, Timber, who keeps us on our toes and brings us so much joy.

Please know that I have an open door policy and no question is too big or too small. Building relationships with every family at Bradford is important to me, and I look forward to building a relationship with you and your family.
